REA with Windsurf, Gemini CLI, VS Code and other agents

Commands here are taken from the official README/docs (checked 2026-10-13); REA changes quickly, so verify against the official docs.

Pass any of these IDs to rea setup --client <id> (repeatable), then restart the agent and check with rea doctor --client <id> --json.

Client-specific notes

Gemini CLI

Uses $GEMINI_CLI_HOME/.gemini/settings.json when that variable is set. A workspace or system mcpServers.rea entry replaces the user entry, and setup never edits workspace/admin settings or grants folder trust — check those files manually if REA is missing in a project.

Qwen Code

Registered in ~/.qwen/settings.json (or $QWEN_HOME/settings.json); the skill goes to ~/.agents/skills.

GitHub Copilot CLI

With Copilot CLI 1.0.95 and gpt-4.1, REA's full schema can trigger compaction_static_context_blocked (#1554). Workaround from the docs: add "REA_MCP_INPUT_SCHEMA_PROFILE": "compact" to the env of mcpServers.rea in Copilot's mcp-config.json, then restart.

Cline and other MCP clients

Cline is not in the official setup list. The docs mention manual MCP registration for other clients; the server command used in official examples is npx -y rea-agents@<version> mcp.
